Oak Street Lightcatcher is a 2,350-square-foot, single-story residence in a walkable neighborhood of Carrboro, North Carolina.
Designed around natural light, the house unfolds between two generous porches: a welcoming front porch that engages the street and a sheltered backyard porch inspired by the covered outdoor spaces of houses in La Pampa, Argentina. Together, they extend the life of the house outdoors and create a continuous relationship between the home, the landscape, and the neighborhood.

At the heart of the living space, the Stûv stove becomes a balanced focal point within the room. Its minimal detailing and restrained geometry complement the warm, contemporary character of the interior without competing with the other architectural elements.

The stove sits gracefully atop a minimal concrete podium integrated with a built-in bench. Vertical slats above the bench allow natural light to filter into the adjacent pantry and mudroom, extending the project’s “Lightcatcher” concept into the details of the living space.

Designed to follow the light, Oak Street Lightcatcher brings the outdoors into everyday life. In the living room, a Stûv fireplace is built into a concrete bench, becoming a natural part of the space where people gather, slow down, and stay awhile.
