Echo series 02

[1] Can you tell us more about your thermal lodge?

Sélénite is a place that offers a break to stop and unwind. With its organic eucalyptus hammam sauna, infrared sauna, Finnish sauna, ice bath, salt room, and spa, these are our invitations to disconnect. A multidisciplinary work among an architect, pharmacist, occupational therapist, and nurse/general contractor to which accessibility was put forward to offer an environment for all while preserving the human dignity of each. Some key features of our heart project: hemp insulation, Faraday cage, wired home automation, and lighting effects that respect the circadian rhythm.

[2] Why a wood-burning stove?

To remain consistent with the health/well-being and ecological angles of the project, we continued the reflection process that we had for each of the equipment, and materials present at Sélénite, namely: is it created in Quebec, what about its particle emissions, its durability, finally does the aesthetic aspect integrate well into the framework to which it will be affixed. Seduced by the idea that despite its function as an ambient fire, it can become a source of heating if required given the sufficient performance with our surface area of 1296 sq. ft.

[3] How did you integrate it?

Integration of the fireplace on a long custom concrete base completed by a local company, Béton Johnstone. This was calculated to arrive precisely at the edge of the base to maintain the linear and “flush” aspect of the project. Strategically placed between the patio door and the L-shaped window, it blends well with nature that wants to invite itself inside the living space, creating together a spectacle of relaxation and comfort.

Echo Series 02

Our Echo series showcases the thoughtful decision-making process that echoes through time. A wood stove or fireplace, carefully chosen, embodies this resonance – an object that, beyond its function, leaves a lasting and unique imprint on the space it inhabits.
