[1] Can you describe your project?
Our project is the kind where we decided to put an incredible amount of love and attention into every detail. As a carpenter and joiner, I challenged myself to create complex, demanding details simply because that’s what I love to do. My partner and I built the entire structure using insulated concrete forms, from the footings all the way to the roof. And it’s worth mentioning that she personally installed nearly half of the exterior cladding!
The property offers an exceptional view, right in the forest and backed by a natural conservation park. It was the ideal place to build a home where we plan to live for a very long time.

[2] Why did you choose to integrate a wood burning stove into your home?
The idea of having a wood stove was deeply rooted in our minds. Growing up, we spent our youth in small country homes where the fire from a stove was a true source of comfort during the cold seasons.

[3] Where and how did you integrate it?
Our Stûv is an integral part of our living space. The living room is visible from both the kitchen and the dining room. When I’m working in my workshop, about a hundred feet from the house, I can even see through a window whether the flames of the Stûv are dancing inside its square firebox.

[4] What do you appreciate most about this stove? Anything you didn’t expect?
Its heating capacity is surprising: the atmosphere becomes warm very quickly. And then there’s the beauty of the flames, rolling and swirling inside the stove. It’s absolutely mesmerizing to watch.

Forest house I

Discreetly inserted onto an outcrop of the Canadian shield, among mature hemlock and deciduous tress, the home is meant to pay tribute to the living forest. Celebrated both outside and inside, wood dominates a restrained palette of materials.  The prematurely aged plank cladding, exposed framework, and various other interior finishes showcase all the richness of […]
