Lac-Brome residence: elegance and noble materials

Built from wood and stone, this residence warmly integrates a double-sided fireplace facing the lake. Between the panoramic glass passage and the interior garden, each space is designed to preserve both the water views and the occupants’ privacy.

Lake Brome, 2020

The double-sided fireplace stands as a central element in this residence located in Lac-Brome. Set on a relatively small lot facing the eponymous lake, it sits within a neighbourhood characterized by large two-storey homes. The challenge was to orient the house toward the lake’s sublime panorama without compromising the occupants’ privacy. The chosen strategy was to design a single-story residence composed of two wings connected by a majestic glass passageway.

Built of wood and stone walls, the Lake Brome Residence emphasizes the durability and nobility of natural materials, allowing it to integrate into its surroundings in a refined, elegant, yet modest manner. At key moments, striking visual openings cut through the house, projecting the eye toward the lake. This is notably the case from the main entrance, where the glazed passage precisely frames the landscape view. Conversely, in the primary suite, an interior garden surrounds a tree, isolating it like a work of art. In this way, the house unfolds almost like a museum walk, revealing, highlighting, accentuating, or isolating elements of the surrounding context with accuracy and sensitivity.

Armcrescent Residence

“Pushing the boundaries of a residential home in the West End of Halifax, the Armcrescent Residence borrows the form of the surrounding Georgian houses, but excudes the refinement of an elevated contemporary home. Designed for clients and their five children, the residence is large in presence, available storage space, and offers many areas for familial […]

Two Hulls House

The geomorphology of the site consists of granite bedrock and boulder till, creating pristine white sand beaches, and turquoise waters. The two pavilions float above the shoreline like two ship’s hulls up on cradles for the winter, forming protected outdoor places both between and under them. This is a landscape-viewing instrument; like a pair of […]
